ok, i know it's horrible, but..... May 17, 2010 Alberto Novales (PA/NJ/NY) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
let me start this off by saying i know nothing about rap or hip hop, i like some rap, but i listen mainly to alternative indie rock, metal, hardcore, lots of underground bands that nobody's ever heard of, i don't claim any hip hop cred whatsoever. i never listened to lil wayne before, but i noticed that a lot of hot white girls listen to him, so one day i was like, "i'll check out his latest cd and see why all these girls like him." then i heard this and was like "this doesn't sound like what i thought it would at all!" but you know what? call me crazy, but i like it! it is really bad, but i like it because it's so bad! it's so bad it's good! the album is completely not mixed right at all. some songs are louder than others. the vocals are too loud on some songs, drums too loud on other songs, it's a really raw mix. it sounds like someone discovering guitars and rock music for the first time. like, when someone learns how to play guitar for the first couple months, they write songs like this. it's very punk rock if you think about it, you can hear this guy really doesn't give a f what anyone thinks of his music, he's just like "whatever, this is for all you white girls", and it's pretty sick, i totally dig it. but i listen to weird music. most people don't. if you listen to this and you just don't care about it being good, not expecting anything, being totally open, you might get it. yeah, this guy is kinda crazy, he's an egomaniac, but hey man, i don't care, that's cool, do your thing, hell yeah! he uses this auto tune non stop, every song, it's ridiculous, over the top auto tune, but i like it because it's so weird and it's part of his sound. i think that's why i dig it, i like it when a band can make it's own unique sound, and lil wayne did that here, and if you're like me and you listen to bands, you might possibly like it. the song ground zero is really messed up, it's one of my favs musically, but it's about 911 and twin towers, so ballsy, i give props.
bottom line, probably worst bomb ever, you won't like it if you like good music. but if you don't care if music is good, or you're just really weird, then listen to it, if you get it, you know it's awesome.
Rap and Rock! March 17, 2010 Sexxy Mama (New York) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This album is perfect for those who love Rap and Rock. The tracks are awesome! My favorite is "On Fire." If you're into great beats and truly appreciate real Rock sound, then you might want to buy this album. Lil Wayne has collaborated with real talent.
This IS Lil Wayne on Rock May 21, 2010 Calvin Franklin Jr. (Michigan) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
When I first heard "The Carter" was releasing a rock ablum I was like "this is about to be a piece of ?*&^" Then i listen to it. This is Wayne's Greatest ablum ever. I love all music, I guess thats why I like it so much. All I see on here is people puting it down. All the tracks are lovely. Maddonna and Wayne did thier thing on "Revolver". "Prom Queen" is a classic in my eyes. "The Price Is Wrong" "Knockout" all of 'em are nice. For those who say this is not rock it's not what you would describe as rock, it's his own version of rock, which is good. And for those who say this was a crappy mistake, I suggest you listen to it again and LISTEN TO YOUR BOY WAYNE SPIT.
Out of the norm!! March 21, 2010 A. Qucsai (Central Florida) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I really like this album because this is the first rapper, I know of, to step out of the usual rap and hip-hop beats. I think there are going to be many rap and hip-hop fans that will not like it because it is different and does not fit there typical category for rap and hip-hop. I do not have a problem with Lil Wayne's music, but I do admit that as a person, he is not the best role model.
I really like what he has done in this album!
Best album of the year so far March 9, 2010 Anthony B. Cannon (cannon79) 2 out of 9 found this review helpful
I will tell you that this is the first review I have ever written. I am a 30 year old nurse and believe I have earned a right to a opinion. This album is by far the best album of the year for so many reasons. Wayne is a musical genuis. Just give this album a try. Its not rap or rock by far. Wayne has created a perfect mix.
